1939: A Year in Film to Remember

April 10, 2019 @ 7PM

1939 is considered by many historians and cineastes as the greatest year in the history of Hollywood filmmaking. In this three-part series, author, professor and film historian Fr. Robert Lauder will explore a trio of classic movies from that year, discussing the productions, personalities and moral themes involved, accompanied by clips from the films.

The movies are:

March 27 – Love Affair starring Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne, directed by Leo McCarey

April 3 – Mr. Smith Goes to Washington starring James Stewart, Jean Arthur and Claude Rains, directed by Frank Capra

April 10 – Ninotchka starring Greta Garbo and Melvyn Douglas, directed by Ernst Lubitsch

Attendees are expected to view films on their own prior to each session.

Admission: $10 each, 3 for $25
