Humanité: The Beloved Community
Presented by The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture
Sunday, March 3, 2019 @ 7PM
This music, you can think of it as coming out of the crucible of oppression … (when) there are forces working against you, the music is just qualitatively better … Humanité is about identifying that beautiful thing that draws us together and causes us to not be afraid, the beloved community. We can make beautiful art together. — Kirk Whalum
Woven from the words, stories and original melodies of an incredibly diverse cast, saxophonist and composer Kirk Whalum and documentary director Jim Hanon’s musical celebration channels the ethos of civil rights in a raw and compassionate bid for global harmony. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Jim Hanon and Kirk Whalum with a performance by Kirk.
