COVID-19 Safety Protocols

The Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Center for Thought & Culture (The Sheen Center) is open on a limited basis with the following procedures and protocols. The health and safety of participants, patrons and staff is our top priority. The Sheen Center’s plan is being implemented but will evolve as necessary based on experience and guidance from the appropriate authorities. Information contained in this document may be changed or modified at the sole discretion of The Sheen Center or by mandate from the State of New York or the New York City Department of Health.

  • Entering Sheen Center – Mandatory Health Screening, PPE and Social Distancing
    • All event employees must have a temperature screening at the beginning of each shift. All employees must wash their hands upon entrance into the building and/or use hand sanitizer. Additionally, the same should occur after restroom and meal breaks.
    • All must maintain social distancing requirements throughout the time in the facility. Hand sanitizer is provided throughout the facility.
    • The Sheen Center has masks, gloves and face shields for employees as needed.
    • All visitors and staff must have a temperature screening upon entry. Any individual who presents with a temperature of 100.4° F (38° C) or greater will be denied entry.
    • All visitors must complete a short questionnaire for contact tracing purposes upon entry.
    • All patrons at ticketed events must present proof of recent (within the past 72hrs) negative COVID-19 diagnostic test result, negative BinaxNow COVID-19 Antigen self-test result (no more than 6 hrs prior to entrance time) or proof of completed immunization to attend events.
    • All visitors, including staff, must wear a mask during their entire time in the facility, provided they are over the age of two and able to medically tolerate such coverings or unless they are unable to wear when they are performing onstage. If a performer does not wear a mask on stage, they must immediately put the mask on as they leave the stage and should socially distance prior to putting on the mask.
    • Acceptable face coverings for COVID-19 include but are not limited to cloth-based face coverings and disposable masks that cover both the mouth and nose.
    • Proper social distancing shall be practiced at all times. At ticketed events, responsible parties shall maintain proper social distancing among patrons, ensuring compliance with capacity and distancing requirements, particularly in areas where individuals may congregate/loiter (lobbies, lines, entrances/exits, elevator waiting areas, etc.).
    • Patrons at ticketed events will be assigned to seats by responsible parties to ensure proper distancing, limiting seating to every other row, though allowing small groups or “blocks’ that allow members of the same party/household/family to sit together and remain appropriately distanced from other patrons.
    • Please note: The Sheen Center will have a zero-tolerance policy for mask or social distancing violations and spectators and participants may be asked to leave the facility.

    • All food items must be individually wrapped or in boxes and must not be shared between individuals, except members of the same party/household/family.
    • Drinks must be in individual containers.
  • Concession & Merchandise Sales
    • Event organizer is not permitted to sell food or drink items. Merchandise sales are permitted, and a touchless payment system is highly encouraged. Responsible Parties should minimize handling cash, credit cards, and mobile devices, where possible per state guidelines.
  • General Travel, Health & Safety Requirements
    • Travel Restrictions – Event organizers will be responsible for complying with all New York State travel guidelines for their staff/performers arriving from or living outside a noncontiguous state. Current travel guidelines are available at https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory.
    • Health/Travel Assessment At all ticketed events, each patron (or, if the patron is a minor, an adult from their party/house/family) in attendance is required to provide contact information upon entry for contact tracing purposes. Event organizer will provide all forms to Sheen Center at the end of each day. Sheen Center will destroy all forms after a fourteen-day period or other mandated period by appropriate authorities.
    • Quarantine Status – Any staff member or visitor currently in a mandatory COVID-19 quarantine period – with or without a recent negative Covid-19 test – will not be allowed in the facility.
    • Restrooms – Restrooms are socially distanced, and capacity is limited to one third of capacity with the total number of occupants posted on the door. Lines for restrooms will be monitored by responsible parties for proper social distancing.
    • Cleaning Protocols – Hygiene and sanitation requirements are in accordance with CDC and Department of Health guidance. Sanitization of high-use surfaces, including but not limited to door handles, staircase banisters, elevator buttons/panels, and restrooms, is performed by Sheen Center maintenance staff frequently throughout the day. If there are multiple events in the day all public spaces are disinfected and fogged between events. Sheen Center maintains outside air flow and capacity in HVAC systems and uses appropriate filtration.
    • Signage/protective barriers – Signage for best safety practices, consistent with CDC/DOH guidelines, are prominently displayed throughout public spaces. Plexiglass protective barriers have been installed at front desk and check-in/ticketing stations.
    • Traffic Within Building – During events, responsible parties enforce directional flow of all traffic both entering and exiting Sheen Center and other internal spaces (lobbies, staircases, etc.) to control movements, as well as capacity limits in elevator.
    • Sheen Center will notify state and local health department immediately upon being informed of any positive COVID-19 test result by an individual, currently or recently at the Sheen Center, maintaining confidentiality required by federal and state law/regulations.
    • Staff training — Staff will be trained in Sheen safety protocols, and all new staff will be oriented upon hiring.
  • Stage/Front of House (FOH) Crew & Stage Equipment
    • Stage/FOH crew must have their temperature scanned upon arrival in the facility.
