Mondays this September! The Sheen Center proudly presents a staged reading series of Dust of Egypt’s award-winning showcase production with its original cast. The play debuted at the New York Theater Festival’s 2022 Winterfest, where it enjoyed a three-day, sold-out run. It won the Festival’s Best Actress Award for Desi Waters’ stirring portrayal of Sojourner, as well as nominations for Best Production and Best Director. In advance of its season-opening production of Jake Heggie’s masterpiece Dead Man Walking, the Metropolitan Opera partners with The Sheen Center to present a discussion featuring Sister Helen Prejean, addressing the impact of the arts on social justice practices. The event takes place September 25. Based on Sister Helen Prejean’s memoir of the same name, Heggie’s Dead Man Walking takes audiences to death row in Louisiana, where Sister Helen is a spiritual advisor for inmate and convicted murderer Joseph De Rocher.
