As a Catholic arts center committed to consistently affirming the sacred and inviolable dignity of human life at all its stages, we share in the moral outrage over the tragic and indefensible killing of George Floyd, and condemn any form of violence against our African-American brothers and sisters in Christ.
With a heavy heart, we join our voice with all people of conscience in calling for justice and praying for solidarity, healing and, above all, love, in overcoming hatred and the sin of racism, ever mindful that we are all created in the image and likeness of God. During this time of pain for communities of color, we, as a performing arts space, also want to reaffirm our commitment to fostering a supportive, safe and welcoming environment for artists of color.
Please read the statement by the interfaith Commission of Religious Leaders (CORL) signed by His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, and Sheen Center Board members, Rev. Dr. A.R. Bernard, Sr. and Rabbi Joseph Potasnik.
With prayers of healing,
David Di Certo
