Event Details
Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell are no strangers to challenge. Whether they’re climbing Yosemite’s most difficult big walls, or bikepacking on a human-powered adventure from Colorado to Alaska, their exploits have been well documented on the big screen around the world.
But what do they talk about between the crux? Beyond the wall, both climbers also champion a second goal: Alex’s ethos of simplicity & practicality drove him to create the Honnold Foundation, which funds solar energy projects worldwide, while Tommy has used his platforms to spark political movements to protect the wild places we love.
This Climate Week, you’re invited to join Alex and Tommy for a fireside chat exploring how we can all make an impact in the fight against climate change. Hosted by Honnold Foundation (HF) and Protect Our Winters (POW), and moderated by Dr. Len Necefer Phd., Alex and Tommy will share their thoughts on the relationship between philanthropy and advocacy. Whether it’s building solar infrastructure in underserved communities or pushing for bold climate policy in Washington D.C., the conversation will highlight the different paths to action and how they intersect.
The evening will also feature opening remarks from HF’s Executive Director Emily Teitsworth and POW’s CEO Erin Sprague, plus a screening of Alex and Tommy’s latest film project, the Devil’s Climb.
Expect a night of connection, insight, and climate-driven purpose with a crowd of 250 outdoor lovers, climate advocates, and industry changemakers.

Tommy Caldwell Bio
Tommy Caldwell resides in Tahoe, California, with his wife Becca, son Fitz and daughter Ingred. He was raised by an adventurous father and mountain guide who taught him to embrace fear and doubt and turn them into inspiration. Given this attitude, Tommy has established some of the hardest routes in the country and free climbed 12 routes on El Capitan in Yosemite.
He believes difficult journeys, with little chance for success, teach him the most. This attitude is no better exemplified than by his first free ascent of the Dawn Wall in January of 2015, and his first ascent of the Fitz Traverse in Patagonia in February of 2014.
