Event Details
Embracing a variety of mediums and styles, the exhibit features ordinary objects – skateboards, jean jackets and violins – reconceived as unconventional canvases and transformed into works of visual beauty. Inspired by eclectic sources, including Renaissance Italian masterpieces and Asian woodblock prints, the items on display reimagine some of the world’s greatest paintings through a bold and wholly original street art sensibility. At once both paying homage to past masters and aspiring to take contemporary urban art to a new level, this innovative exhibit offers an encounter with iconic images in a way never seen before – bridging the museum gallery and the street.
About The Artist
Rafael Colón is a self-taught artist born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx, NY. Inspired by art history and his global travels during his time serving in the U.S. Marine Corp, he takes his artistic discipline from Asian wood block art, Renaissance Italian and Dutch master painters, as well as graffiti and street art. Colón is one of the pioneers of violin, skateboard and jean jacket art.
